Green Planet™ Cups
Handling reusable cups has recently become mandatory at festivals and sports events in Belgium. Rooted in our Japanese heritage, we take pride in our contribution to the sustainable biodegradable cup project at the Belgian Pro League football club Sint-Truidense STVV.
Kaneka Corporation developed and produced the Green Planet™ material for these cups. Unlike conventional plastic cups, this reusable cup is entirely biodegradable and renewable, leaving no microplastics behind.
It is made from our 100% natural Green Planet™ material derived from plant oils like used cooking oil. Bacteria - naturally present in the soil and seawater - break down the material, leaving nothing but essential building blocks for new plant growth, making it 100% renewable.
However, it doesn’t mean fans can casually discard their cup after the match – littering doesn’t belong in nature! The ideal path is to reuse a Green Planet™ drinking cup for as long as possible. If it accidentally ends up in the environment, it is nevertheless better than a plastic cup, as it completely decomposes to water, CO2, and biomass without leaving microplastics.
