Kaneka presents broad range of material solutions at K 2019
Kaneka will use K 2019 (Düsseldorf, October 16-23) to highlight its wide portfolio of material solutions for the functional and foamed plastics industry.
At its booth (Hall 6, stand 6A020), Kaneka will present state-of-the art polymer technology, including a major advancement in sustainability.
New developments are necessary to demonstrate that innovative plastics do have a role to play in a truly circular economy, amid growing calls for recyclability and reusability. “There is still a need for plastics in the future because plastic products add comfort, convenience, and safety to our everyday lives. What is needed is a circular waste management model and innovative material solutions from the industry,” says Olivier Renson, General Manager EMEA, Performance Polymers SV at Kaneka.
The company’s K 2019 innovation highlight is KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer PHBH™. This bio-based and biodegradable polymer PHBH, which is suitable for food utensils, containers and packaging materials, is produced by a microorganism fermentation process, in which plant oils and its fatty acids are used as a primary raw material. “PHBH offers plastics manufacturers and brand owners an alternative solution to compostable and biodegradable articles,” says Yukihito Ozaki, General Manager, Biodegradable Polymers Division, Kaneka.
Also at K 2019, the company will highlight foam and residential techs solutions, EPERAN™-PP and EPERAN™, which are expanded polypropylene and polyethylene foam particles. These solutions can be molded into various shapes and products. Their superior mechanical and outstanding cushioning and energy absorption properties make them ideal materials for the automotive industry, engineering products, returnable containers, housings HVAC (heating, ventilation & air conditioning units), cushioning & protective packaging, and many more applications.
By introducing flame retardancy in expanded polypropylene through EPERAN™-PP, Kaneka is addressing opportunities for specific applications and markets. “The excellent flame-retardant and heat resistance behavior of this 100% halogen-free material and the non-toxic smoke which it generates in case of fire allows its introduction in the field of electronic appliances, construction and HVAC and even supports applications for public transportation and aerospace,” notes Luc Point, General Manager EMEA Foam & Residential Techs SV, at Kaneka.
Since the 1960s, Kaneka has been a pioneer in the development of polymers that employ a core-shell structure. The company has a proven track record in managing highly trustful and stable business partnerships throughout the plastics industry. In these four decades, Kaneka has expanded and refined their unique technology, resulting in the successful commercialization of a wide variety of additives in the functional plastics markets.
At K 2019, Kaneka’s combination of tradition, knowledge and innovation will be highlighted through Kane Ace™ high performance polymers solutions.
“Dealing with the fast-paced changes in technology and challenging requirements of today’s society, Kaneka is continuing to create value as a cutting-edge solutions provider for the issues facing the world, including sustainability. K 2019 will be a great place to showcase our latest solutions that respond to the needs of manufacturers, consumers, society, and the global environment, today and tomorrow,” Olivier Renson concludes.
