KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™

KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ is the first-ever 100% bio-based polymer produced via a revolutionary bio-fermentation process using renewable vegetable oils as feedstock.

KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ PHBH belongs to the family of PolyHydroxyAlkanoates (PHA) and is a copolymer of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3-HB) and 3-hydroxyhexanoate (3-HH).

The material can be processed with conventional plastic industry equipment, such as injection molding and extrusion machinery. The typical end applications are those for which organic recyclability (compostable and anaerobic digestibility) is the intended end-of-life or for which it is challenging to avoid fragments ending up in the open environment. It is suitable for (food) packaging, organic waste management, agricultural, horticultural, and marine-related applications.

Articles made of KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ have a significant sustainability advantage in cutting back on microplastics and ocean pollution through its biodegradable properties. Given the right conditions under either aerobic, anaerobic, or marine conditions in the natural environment, they will begin to biodegrade and will convert back into biomass, carbon dioxide, and water.
